On April 2, 2022, municipal byelections in Batumi were held with the use of e-Voting Technologies. Voter verification devices and OMR vote casting machines were deployed in all 14 polling stations of the N4 local majoritarian district of Batumi. E-voting pilot project was implemented by the Central Election Commission in partnership with Good Governance Institute and Smartmatic.

On the E-Day voting and counting process using electronic technologies was carried out successfully. Deployed e-Voting technology received full endorsement from all members of the election commissions and the voters. E-voting technology significantly simplified the working process for the members of the commission and increased the credibility of the election results for the voters.
According to the chairman of the CEC, Giorgi Kalandarishvili, e-voting pilot project was a great experience for the election administration, and the CEC is willing to continue e-voting technology pilots, to explore the perspective for their eventual full-scale implementation.
